Device Configuration

Single Devices

To review settings and restrictions on a single device:

  1. Select the Devices tab in top navigation.
  2. Select a device from the list.
  3. In the right panel, select a category.

Most categories in the Devices view will allow you to remove, add new, and view details.

To edit settings and restrictions already on a device, you will need to go to the respective library, choose a specific entry from the library list, then edit and update. Examples from the Devices view and the Libraries view are shown below.

Multiple Devices

To review settings and restrictions on multiple devices:

  1. Select the Devices tab in top navigation.
  2. Select multiple devices from the list.
    • For each category in the right panel, you will see details that apply to at least one of the selected devices. Any restrictions that are not applicable to at least one of the devices will be ignored.
  3. In the right panel, select the category.

Most categories in the Devices view will allow you to remove, add new, and view details.

To edit settings and restrictions already on device(s), you will need to go to the respective library, choose a specific entry from the library list, then edit and update. Examples from the Devices view and the Libraries view are shown below.

Accounts (Email)

When working with devices: Choose the Accounts tab in the right panel to view a list of all current email accounts assigned to the device. An admin can review existing email accounts, add new accounts, or copy account configurations from the library.
When working in the Accounts Library (shown below): An admin can view email account details; remove one or more accounts from the library; view all devices with a specific email account assigned, as well as add a new email account to the library.

Apple Profiles

When working with devices: Choose the Apple Profiles tab in the right panel to view any provisioning or configuration profiles installed on the device. Only profiles that have been created with Apple Configurator and installed on a device via KACE Cloud MDM can be removed.
When working in the Profiles Library (shown below): An admin can add a new profile, remove an existing profile, or view all devices that have a specific profile assigned to them.

Apps

When working with devices: Choose the Apps tab in the right panel to view a list of all applications installed on the device or devices, including size details.
When working in the Apps Library (shown below): An admin can view app details; filter subsets of apps; edit settings on edit-enabled apps; remove one or more apps from the library; view all devices with a specific app assigned; add a new email account to the library, as well as upload an appconfig.xml file (iOS only) to an app that is not yet edit-enabled.

Apps, Multi-Configuration

When working with devices: From the Devices tab, choose device(s). In the right-hand panel, open the Apps tab. Click 'Add'. To add an existing app configuration, search for the app name to see a list of all available configurations, make a selection, then click 'Install on Device'. While searching you may notice the same app named as multiple configurations—e.g., Adobe Acrobat with Default Settings and Adobe Acrobat Marketing Group Settings.

When working in the Apps Library (shown below): This feature lets admins create multiple configurations for individual Android and iOS apps. Once additional configurations are saved, they can be accessed in the App Library under an app’s edit function for future management.

Note: Not all apps allow this functionality, but an administrator can determine which apps are available for multi-configuration by locating the gear icon adjacent to the app in the master list.

Certificates

When working with devices: Choose the Certificates tab in the right panel to view a list of security certificates installed on the device or devices, including expiration dates, issuer, purpose, and fingerprint details. Expired certificates will show an expiration date and status in red.
When working in the Certificates Library (shown below): An admin can view certificate details; remove one or more certificates from the library, as well as add a new certificate to the library.

Passcode Rules

When working with devices: Choose the Passcode Rules tab in the right panel to clear a default passcode rule set or view details of the rule set. Under the More Actions dropdown, an admin can clear a passcode, which will unlock the selected device until a new passcode is set. On iOS devices, clearing the passcode will disable Touch ID.
When working in the Passcode Rules Library (shown below): An admin can add a new passcode rule set to the library; edit or remove a passcode rule set; and view all devices with a specific rule set applied.

Note: Auto-Lock Timeout The auto-lock timeout specifies the maximum amount of time that a device may be idle before it will automatically lock. Some device users may prefer a shorter time, but they will not be able to choose a longer time when the restriction is set.

Note: Device Lock Grace Period The device lock grace period is the amount of time that may pass after the device locks but before a passcode is required in order to unlock the device. This option is only available on iOS devices.

Restrictions

When working with devices: In the Devices section, an admin can choose a single device or multiple devices, then in the right panel Restrictions tab, view all restrictions currently applied on the device(s); view effective restrictions only, or view details for a single restriction set.
When working in the Restrictions Library (shown below): In the Restrictions Library, an admin can add a new Android, iOS, macOS restriction set; edit or remove a restriction set; create default restriction sets; or view all devices with a specific restriction set applied.

Note: The 'Allow use of camera' restriction can be changed in the Android device restrictions section within the MDM Portal. However, even if an admin chooses not to allow the use of camera on a work profile, an end user can still access the camera on the device using a personal profile.

Variables

For OS-specific details on variables, please see the Variables topic in documentation.

VPN

When working in the VPN Library (shown below): An admin can view VPN configuration details; edit or remove a VPN configuration, as well as add a new VPN configuration to the library. See VPN step-by-step instructions for Android, iOS, and Windows.

Wi-Fi

When working in the Wi-Fi Library (shown below): An admin can view details for a specific Wi-Fi configuration; edit, save as, and delete; view all devices with a specific Wi-Fi configuration installed, as well as add a new Wi-Fi configuration to the library. See Wi-Fi step-by-step instructions.
